Trump spent his final weeks as President tweeting (until he was banned from Twitter), whining about the election results, playing golf, moping--all this while the Coronavirus blazed on. "He did a lot of work," said one of the Fox News hosts, somehow managing to keep a straight face. "He watched all the shows." And to compliment this information, I saw a White House schedule that said, incredulously, something like, "the President is working really hard as he is making lots of phone calls and has lots of meetings today." In this bizarre take on Trump's activities, specifics were nowhere to be found...as absent as Trump's commitment to his duties.
It's not going to be a fairy tale, but the Biden presidency has brought radical normality (to steal a line from a CNN editorial) to the office. Fox News, on the other hand, is as dishonest as ever, with Sean Hannity attacking the President's cognitive ability and Maria Bartiromo--once a respected journalist--saying that some Democrats posed as MAGA followers in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol despite no evidence. Those two are unworthy and should be booted off the network, along with other "editorial" broadcasters there.
Chances are slim at Trump will be convicted and kept from ever holding office again. But it's a must! Otherwise, he will receive Secret Service protection, $200,000 per year and (ouch!) a million bucks a year in travel expenses. This man who incited a riot that killed five people doesn't even deserve a free subscription to the National Review or a McDonald's gift card.
Of course, President Joe Biden has huge mountains of national challenges to overcome, and he's going to disappoint factions of our population. But I give him credit for taking on such a heavy load and offering hope and his relentless spirit to these major challenges. Whatever you think of him, the United States has someone bringing decency back to the White House again--Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are already getting things done.
